Radical Pie |
The various palettes in Radical Pie provide quick access to the most common mathematical symbols, but there are many more available in the Unicode standard. Any character belonging to any of the fonts used by the current design can be added to an equation through the Insert Character dialog, which is shown below. This dialog can be opened by selecting Insert Character... from the Equation menu or by typing Ctrl+Shift+I.
When a character is entered with the Insert Character dialog, the effect is the same as though the character were entered directly with the keyboard. The role and style chosen for the character are affected by the current editing mode and style selection, if any. The appearance the character will have in the equation is reflected in the tables shown in the Insert Character dialog, and this is most noticeable for the ordinary letters in the ASCII range. For example, if you were to type Ctrl-D before opening the Insert Character dialog, then all of the letters and numbers will appear in the double-struck style.
The buttons on the right side of the dialog can be used to flip through the 256-entry pages of Unicode values. The Up and Down keys or the Page Up and Page Down keys may also be used. Only those pages containing characters available in one of the current design fonts are shown. If you know the Unicode value of the character you want, then you can enter it in the box at the bottom of the dialog, and it will automatically navigate to the corresponding page if possible.
When the current mode is MATH or CHEM, some characters shown in this dialog are surrounded by a light blue box. This indicates that they receive special handling by Radical Pie that usually means a mathematical structure is inserted into the equation instead of just a single character. For example, selecting the character with Unicode value U+222B causes an integral structure to be inserted. In TEXT mode, this doesn’t happen, and all characters are added to the equation verbatim without special handling.
